The Verpan Fun 1DM was designed by Denmark’s legendary Verner Panton in 1964. It is a pendant lamp comprising three chrome rings each supporting sublime cascading tresses of individual mother-of-pearl discs. The discs are connected by chrome chain links (not the tacky nylon wire of inferior reproductions) that combines a pleasing appearance with a taut “hang” dynamic. The cord is insulated with tasteful black fabric. Panton was a remarkable and irrepressible character whose first office was the back of his VW Camper (where he lived with his dog, Happy). His work is playful and optimistic and he was gifted with a wonderful, child-like imaginary vision. Post-Vietnam, however, these qualities began to be perceived as naïve (although discerning collectors continued to avidly acquire his work) and it wasn’t until his re-discovery by the post-modernists in the late nineteen nineties that Panton’s huge contribution to the art of living beautifully was universally acknowledged. Verpan Fun shell lamps emit a wonderfully natural glow. The slightest breath of wind causes the individual shells to oscillate, tinkling melodiously one against another whilst simultaneously shimmering with a delightful iridescence. Dimensions: Diameter: 45 cm. Height: 60 cm. Cord: 400 cm. Weight: 5 kilos. Bulb: E27 (E26) max 75 W.
