The Mega Bulb SR2 from Nordic design house &tradition was designed by Sofie Refer to be a big sister to the classic light-bulb-shaped SR1. Just as beautiful, just as elegant, the SR2 is Sofie’s poetic and pragmatic response to the lighting demands of larger interiors. The high lumen output of this gorgeous, wipe-clean lamp has made it a favourite in kitchens designed for serious cooking. Hand-blown from a scorching amalgam of sand, soda and chalk using a one thousand year old method, each unit displays individual irregularities ensuring that it is a one-off original. The lamp holder and matching ceiling rose are fashioned from fine porcelain and the cord is available in red or clear. &tradition are known for their commitment to the environment. They respect nature by using her gifts to craft beautiful objects that are a delight to use and will last and last. In the capable hands of &tradition Form meets Function, Art meets Craft, and Material meets Potential. Sofie Refer’s pendant lights can be viewed at the Athenium in Chicago (though UK customers will find it’s cheaper to buy one), and she was the recipient of the 2001 Good Design Award. Her fun, feminine approach is tempered with intellect and sophistication, and her joy-giving designs are increasingly regarded as timeless collectables. Dimensions: Diameter: 18 cm. Height: 23 cm.
